On senior day, Deerfield softball eagerly anticipated Loomis’s arrival under the bright sunshine. Loomis jumped to an early 3-1 lead in the first inning, but the Doors held them off and the score remained as it was up until the 5th inning when the Doors’ bats came alive. Players started crushing the ball and beat out some close plays. Kailen Coelho had a bases clearing double and DA jumped to a 9-3 lead. Though the Pelicans battled back, DA put more runs on the board and the game ended with a 12-6 win. Everyone on the team contributed to the success whether it was timely hits or solid defensive plays. The season ended on a high note with the win, but more importantly, with the team celebrating their senior leaders, Mia Burch and Jordan Manning. The team grew and improved tremendously throughout the year. With some new players coming in and a number of veterans returning, 2020 should be a great year for Deerfield softball.
