Rowing, Girls: Varsity vs. Founder’s Day Regatta

Event Details

This past Sunday, May 5, girls’ rowing made a spirited showing, braving the rain and mud at the Founder’s Day Regatta on Lake Waramaug.  The all-novice G4, each athlete in her second race ever, made a strong showing by placing second in their heat, and qualifying for the finals where they placed sixth.  The G3 rowed a solid heat and finished in a close third, just out of position to advance.

The G2’s heat was one of the most exciting races of the day, as they found themselves in third place well into the second half of the race.  In an extraordinary comeback, the G2 made up a full boat length on the second-place crew in the last 300m to claim second place in their heat, and qualify for the finals, where they placed sixth.  The G1 established themselves as one of the strongest crews at the regatta both in the heat and in the final, finishing with the bronze medal and just back from a league crew they’ll see again at our NEIRA Championship.  Overall it was a good day with good progress, and we look forward to building on this work in the coming weeks’ practices and races.

Boat Results:

1V – 3rd Place
