This past Saturday, May 11, girls’ rowing proved their mettle in their only home race of the year on the Connecticut River at Northampton Community Rowing. Against Middlesex and top-ranked Nobles, the competition was formidable but each crew showed aggressiveness and fight all the way down the course. The G4 crew finished third, ahead of a second Nobles crew, and both G2 and G3 finished in second behind only Nobles’ top entry; G3 kept significant pressure on Nobles all the way to the finish, coming up just short at the line. The closest race of the day was the G1’s, where the Deerfield boat jumped out at the start on previously undefeated Nobles and never looked back, holding off every charge and finished with a 2-second upset victory. It was an exciting day of racing under beautiful sunshine in front of all the fans visiting for family weekend. Next up for the team is Choate week followed by the NEIRA Championship, and the team will be ready to finish up strong!
