Deerfield got its first sweep of the season down in Suffield on Wednesday afternoon. The team was sad to lose their #1 for the day but happy for Tess Mannix’s chance up in the varsity doubles ladder. Everyone stepped up and got the job done! Straight down the ladder, Whitney Vogt, Annabel Gerber, Anne Brown, and Kylie Kittredge handily defeated their opponents in prosets. Kittredge baked the day’s only bagel, 8-0, though Brown and Gerber came close in 8-1 wins. While Vogt traded a few games with her girl, she built up some momentum and soon pulled ahead for a decisive 8-4 win, showing her customary composure and patience at the baseline.
In doubles, new #1 pairing Deirdre Mullowney and Liz Tarazi found their rhythm, cranking out a blistering 8-2 win. #2 and #3 pairs Cameron Heard/Lily Zeng and Ally Kell/Griffin Dewey held their opponents to a single game apiece to complete the Big Green’s utter rout of the Tigers. The squad happily added another win to its early-season tally and looks forward to an early afternoon matchup with Williston and to drilling volleys and at-net aggression this week.
