The squad took their A-game to Stoneleigh-Burnham on a windy and chilly Wednesday afternoon for a nice win. Despite some injuries and thus ladder reshuffling, everyone stepped up to put together the 4-3 victory! Annabel Gerber, Anne Brown, and Kylie Kittredge were all victorious in their 2, 3, and 4 singles matches (8-4, 8-3, 8-5). Tess Mannix had a tough L to SBS’s #1 varsity player but got 3 games off her opponent, broke her excellent serve, had quite a few aces, and generally played her best and most aggressive tennis, and had nothing to be ashamed off stepping off the court!
In doubles, Liz Tarazi and Deirdre Mullowney at #1 went to a tiebreak at 7-all. Sadly, the duo dropped the breaker 2-7, but not for lack of trying! Cameron Heard and Lily Zeng at #2 secured the win for Deerfield that day with an 8-6 victory. Due to time constraints Anne Fiorini and Aurora Devereaux couldn’t finish their #3 doubles match and ceded the point to SBS, but had a nice few games on the way there.
The team looks forward to the second half of its season and perennial challenger Loomis coming up.
