Deerfield got a great win to start off the season against Cushing on Saturday. In the teams’ first meeting in several years due to perennial April showers, the Big Green kicked things off with a bang! In singles, Deerfield swept Cushing: from top to bottom, Tess Mannix, Whitney Vogt, Annabel Gerber, Kylie Kittredge, Ally Kell, and Lily Zeng all won their prosets by a large margin. In doubles, the team got plenty of feedback: Kell and Zeng had a tough 3-8 loss at #1, while at #2 Liz Tarazi and Cameron Heard nearly staged a huge comeback but ultimately dropped the point 5-8. Anne Fiorini and Aurora Devereaux, though, got an awesome 8-3 win at #3 to finish out the day 7-2 in Deerfield’s favor. Kittredge, Zeng, and Devereaux were thus all winners in their first appearance for the tennis team, while Mannix’s return to the courts began on an auspicious note. The team looks forward to some stiff competition with Westminster on Wednesday away!
