The Deerfield Boys Varsity team continued their winning streak, never dropping a set en route to sweeping Loomis Chaffee at home on Wednesday. This win is the team’s fourth in a row and brings their record to 4-1.
In doubles, #2 Sarachek/Yao made quick work of Anderson/Scott, winning 8-2. Ji/Bronckers remain undefeated at #3, beating O’Brien/Hernandez 8-4. Auersperg/Pathapti then closed out Woody/Pondys at #1 by a score of 8-3.
Deerfield continued their strong play in singles, with Pathapati quickly winning 6-0, 6-0 at #2. Pathapati’s serve and heavy, well-placed groundstrokes were too much for Mann Pandya to handle. Playing at #3, Achille Sarachek continued to hit his groundstrokes confidently and defeated a steady Gavin Anderson handily, 6-1, 6-0.
Against John O’Brien at #4, junior Eli Ji out-rallied his opponent to win 6-1, 6-3. Junior Adrian Yao played long points to beat Liam Scott 6-0, 6-1. His deep groundstrokes and willingness to come to net proved too much for Scott. Sam Bronckers, also a junior, had to play some long games before finally closing out Julian Hernandez at the #6 spot, 6-1, 6-4. Bronckers’ aggressive net play and strong returns secured him the win.
The toughest match of the day belonged to senior Alfi Auersperg at #1. In a battle of big serves and big forehands, Auersperg was mentally tough and broke his opponent, Langston Woody, at the end of each set to secure the 6-3, 6-4 win.
The boys will travel to Andover this Saturday to take on rival Philips Academy at 2pm.
