Deerfield came out strong on Wednesday competing against Kingswood-Oxford. Due to time restrictions the team only played singles and were victorious on all six courts.
Adrian Yao (’20) cruised past his opponent Jacob Schwartz 6-0, 6-0 at #5 singles. Next to finish was sophomore Achille Sarachek who handled the hard-hitting lefty Adam Sonntag 6-3, 6-0 in the #3 spot.
The remaining four matches were battles for DA. At #1 singles, KO senior Luke Riemann forced senior captain Alfi Auersperg to a third set super tiebreaker where Auersperg’s excellent serving and big forehands captured the match 6-2, 3-6, 10-6. Junior Sam Bronckers was also pushed to a third set in the #6 spot against Teddy Keegan, ultimately clinching the match with his strong serving and athleticism, 6-7(4), 6-4, 10-6.
At #2 singles, junior Deepak Pathapati won in two tight sets against another big hitting lefty Adam Na, 6-4, 6-3. The last match to finish belonged to Eli Ji (’20) who closed out freshman Max-William Kanz in two long, tight sets 7-6(3), 7-5. Ji was mentally tough throughout the match, solid from the baseline, and confident with his net play. He also came up with some amazing passing shots!
This win puts Deerfield at 2-1 for the season. Next, the boys travel to Taft on Saturday, April 13 for a match at 4pm.
