Deerfield fell 10-8 in a hard-fought battle against St. Mark’s in our season home opener. St. Mark’s, who jumped to a 5-1 lead, controlled the first quarter of the game. Draw controls, in particular, emerged as a challenge for the Big Green in the opening minutes. After a few minor adjustments, however, the Big Green rallied and fought their way out of the 4 goal deficit. The 2nd half of the game saw even, back and forth competition. Both teams showed excellence in the midfield and offered consistently effective and relentless defensive performances. It was a strong, full-hearted effort, and while we left the game with specific goals and focused areas for improvement, it was certainly a contest to be proud of.
