The Big Green kicked off their season at home against Middlesex last Saturday with a convincing 11-3 win. On a beautiful early spring day, Deerfield wasted no time winning the first draw and netting a goal only a couple of minutes in. Initially put on their heels, Middlesex quickly dug in with strong defense, forcing DA to be careful and creative in their attack. After Middlesex went up by a couple goals early in the first half on fast breaks, it was DA’s turn to dig in, ramping up their defense in transition. Brianna Felice ’21 was a huge leader in this effort, starting effective double teams that caused several turnovers. After the half, DA began to pull away, keeping fresh legs on the field and energy high. Quick passes around the arc proved successful in beating a strong Middlesex defense. A shout out goes to some of our senior high-scorers: Emily Stonestreet ’19 and Emily Henderson ’19. It was a true team win for the first game of the season! The Big Green hits the road this Wednesday to face Andover.
