On a blustery April Saturday afternoon at Headmaster’s Field, the Deerfield baseball team split a doubleheader with Exeter, a 4-3 loss in Game 1 and 7-1 victory in Game 2. Deerfield received tremendous pitching performances from David Thomas, Henry Gustavson, Tyler Mudd, and Thomas Leimkuhler. These four combined to strike out 12 Exeter batters and allow only 3 earned runs in both ends of the doubleheader. The Deerfield offense was led by Javier Irizarry’s four hits and two RBI’s and David Thomas chipped in with two hits on the day. Deerfield improves to 7-3 on the season. Next up for the Big Green is a game at Cushing on Wednesday.
