In the first game since Long Winter Weekend, Deerfield took on a feisty and hard working Westminster squad at home on Wednesday afternoon. Though we worked hard all game long, we struggled with the physical nature of the game, and as a result never really got our momentum going for long stretches. Deerfield opened the scoring in the second period, when Haley Sundstrom ’21 buried a feed from Brianna Felice ’21 in front of the net. Both Sundstrom and Felice had excellent games in the offensive zone this afternoon, and their hard work was truly rewarded with this goal. Westminster tied the score early in the third period on the power play, but we then responded with a power play goal of our own when Mae Emerson ’19 finished off a bunch of good puck movement (Mary Edmonds ’19 and Ali Fujiyoshi ’19 earned the assists). However, Westminster again tied the score with a shot from out wide, and neither team found the winner down the stretch. Liv Mikesell ’20 made 17 saves, and we fired 27 shots on the Westy goal. Thank you to the Edmonds family for the delicious array of snacks after the game! Next up is Berkshire at home on Saturday evening.
