Deerfield took control from the very beginning against Cushing on the road on Wednesday afternoon, out-shooting the hosts 44-13 and taking home a 6-0 victory. In the first period, lots of good puck movement in the offensive zone led to a open lane for Ali Fujiyoshi ’19, and she blasted a puck short side (assist to Caroline Skillman ’19). In the second, Lisa Ito-Bagshaw ’21 scored a short-handed goal on a pass from Ellia Chiang ’21 (who had a very strong overall game), Christina Halloran ’20 scored a power play goal (assists to Fujiyoshi and Deirdre Mullowney ’19), and then Mary Edmonds ’19 scored off a pass from Halloran. In the third, Edmonds scored her second of the game off of a beautiful shot/rebound (assist to Mae Emerson ’19), and then finished the hat-trick a few minutes later (assists to Emerson and Halloran). Our six defensemen had excellent and consistent games in all three zones, Erin Howe ’20 and Kailen Coelho ’20 were outstanding on the forecheck, and Jordan Manning ’19 (who earned the hard hat) made several good saves to preserve the shutout. Many thanks to the Devereaux family for the pizza, drinks, and cupcakes after the game. Next up is a huge game against Hotchkiss on the road on Saturday afternoon.
