Deerfield Girls Hockey took care of business on Saturday evening, controlling the game from the get-go and earning a 5-1 at home against Berkshire. Mary Edmonds ’19 started the scoring in the first period, taking a pass from Christina Halloran ’20 and driving to the net before slipping the puck in far side. In the second period, Caroline Skillman ’19 caught fire, and scored two goals for us to give us a 3-0 lead heading into the third. First, on a delayed penalty call, she took a pass from Halloran and buried a quick shot past the Berkshire goalie. Then, on a nice drive to the net, she re-directed the puck in off of assists from Ellia Chiang ’21 and Lisa Ito-Bagshaw ’21. In the third, the Kelly Howe ’22, Brianna Felice ’21 and Haley Sundstrom ’21 line went to work, scoring a trademark goal that included hard battles in the corner and pressure in front of the net. This time, it was Felice who got the goal (the first of her DA career) off of assists from her linemates. Though Berkshire was able to get one past Jordan Manning ’19, who had a solid game with ten saves, Edmonds scored a beautiful goal on the penalty kill, again taking a pass from Halloran and demonstrating incredible poise and control in finishing off the play. An all-around team effort, and a nice way to bounce back from a disappointing tie on Wednesday. Everyone played well, and Felice earned the hard hat for her well-deserved goal and overall hustle all game long. Thank you to the Visnapuu family for the delicious spread of pizza, salad, drinks, and cookies after the game! Next up is an away contest at Cushing on Wednesday.
