On Saturday Deerfield girls JV hockey hosted their rivals from Wallingford: Choate. It was clear from the start that Deerfield came to play, as Bailey Cheetham ’19, Juliet Perry ’19, and Kami Meier ’22 all netted goals in the first three minutes! The dominant offense of the Cheetham, Roche, and Heaney line continued this trend when Hannah Roche ’21 put another one about 8 minutes into the period. In the second period, following a beautiful goal by Alissa Zhang ’21, Deerfield was forced to battle as we took 3 penalties in a row. In an exciting moment of 5-on-3 against the Big Green, Juliet Perry ’19 was able to skate end-to-end and net a shorthanded goal. The third period was more of the same, seeing two additional goals by Alissa Zhang ’21 to complete a hat trick! Finishing up the 9-0 victory was an excellent shot by Sophomore Maddy Boger over the Choate goalie’s shoulder. However, the highlight of the game came after the final buzzer when both teams took the ice to dance the Macarena together! In the midst of a rivalry game it is nice to see players come together in a moment of pure fun. Deerfield heads to Hotchkiss on Saturday before finishing up the season with games against Loomis and Westminster.
