DA ended their home game schedule with a huge win against a talented NMH squad! We started the game with a celebration of our seniors. For their last home game at Deerfield, our three captains were hype and full of energy. NMH was the first to score, with a nice floater from the right side of the basketball. DA would hold them to only two points for the next three minutes and went on a 9-point run. Senior Jada Howard (’19) hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key, senior Alexia Baker (’19) hit a free throw and another 3-pointer, and Whitney Vogt (’20) finished off of an inbound play. NMH then went on a 5-point run to close the gap. Captains Jada Howard, Alexia Baker, and Nicole Da Costa (’19) really set the tone for DA on defense in the first half. Their active play resulted in several steals and forced turnovers by NMH. NMH would only score 8 more points before half-time while DA scored 18 points to go into the half with a 27-15 lead. DA started the second half on fire. Kate Hickey (’20), Vera Menafee (’20), and Samara Cummings (’20) connected on four baskets (8 points) to extend the lead. NMH played great team basketball. Seven of their twelve players scored in the second half, but DA’s strong rebounding, execution on offense, and tough defensive play was too much to overcome. DA’s Jada Howard and Vera Menafee and NMH’s #23 J. Scotland led all scorers with 10 points each. The final score was 49-36.
