DA got a big win at home today against a tough Loomis team. Kate Hickey (’20) got us on the scoreboard early with a nice jump shot from the wing. Both teams traded baskets for most of the first half. Alexia Baker (’19), Vera Menafee (’20), Annie Kane (’20), and Ruby Chase (’21) contributed 9 more points for the Big Green. Loomis players #21 and #23 connected on two threes and two free throws. At the half, DA led by three points (11-8). DA continued to apply the pressure on defense in the second half and forced turnovers that resulted in several points in transition. Loomis kept the game close for the first few minutes of the second half, but DA eventually pulled away. Ruby Chase (’21) hit key buckets in transition with assists from Alexia Baker (’19) and Kiki Brainard (’22). Kate Hickey (’20) added a big three pointer from the corner off an assist from Jada Howard (’19). Michelle Zimmerman (’21) and Samara Cummings (’20) added two points each from offensive rebound put-backs. Alexia Baker (’19) and Vera Menafee (’20) contributed four points each, and Molly Fischer (’20) rounded out our scoring with a made free throw. Annie Kane (’20) was the defensive player of the game. She was all over Loomis’ point guard, forcing Loomis out of their offensive rhythm. #23 for Loomis led all scorers with 10 points. Alexia Baker (’19) was the second leading scorer with 8 points. The final score was 32-16. DA is back in action against Wilbraham and Monson Academy on Wednesday.
