The girls’ JV squad started off the 2019-2020 season with a bang in a 7-0 victory over Hotchkiss. Senior Christina Li, back at the top spot for JV after a year-long hiatus, returned with a vengeance to win in 5. Junior Grace Russell, after a meteoric rise from the thirds squad to the #2 role on JV, had a similarly intense match and grabbed another point for Deerfield in five games. Both girls did a fantastic job staying calm and composed as they battled for the fifth game, always a challenge. Senior Esme Benjamin and junior Camille Glatt cleaned up with wins to complete the sweep of Hotchkiss, thanks to three Ws from varsity players Emma Kahle ’22, Talbot von Stade ’21, and Alex Kelsey ’23 in the continuous ladder. Deerfield girls cleaned up in exhibition as well, with great games in particular from team newcomers Lilly Berry ’21, Zeyna Ilahi ’22, and Hunter Pulliam ’22. The team was happy to start off the season with a big win and looks forward to its next match, another home contest against Milton, in a few days!
