The Thirds Girls Basketball team faced their toughest opponent of the season as they traveled to Bement for their first away game on Wednesday, December 18th. Bement jumped out to quick 12-2 lead in the first 4 minutes of the game on some good shooting and better defense. The Big Green increased the intensity on defense to cut the lead to single digits before Bement made another run at the half. The disciplined Bement passing and accurate shooting were just too much in the second half as they handed Deerfield a 27-12 loss. Arie Lewis-Pugh led all scorers with 8, and Aurelia Bolton and Sunny Chen both added a pair of deep twos. On the defensive end, Samantha Pehl was a force on the boards and Mia Calcano had a season high 3 steals. Despite the loss, the girls played tough right up to the buzzer. The team moves to 1-2 on the season heading into the winter break.
