On Wednesday, December 18th, the boys 3rds basketball team hosted the Eagle Hill School in the Hale Gym for a 3 pm tipoff. Coming off a season opening loss to NMH, Deerfield were looking to rebound against the Pioneers. With balanced scoring and a solid effort from the whole bench, the team were able to put together a 48-26 win to even their season record at 1-1. In the first half, the teams traded baskets and EHS were able to take a small lead. Deerfield responded well, ending the half on a solid run to take a 24-13 lead into the break. In the second half, EHS cut the lead back to single digits, while Deerfield went on an extended scoring drought. Just when it looked like the balance of the game might shift, Deerfield regained their footing and got the lead back up to double digits. Despite numerous fouls in the 2nd half that sent EHS to the free throw line 15 times, the team kept up the pressure and ended up with a 22-point win. Deerfield had two players in double figures, led by George Fauver ’22 with 14 points and Moises Castillo ’23 with 11, with 5 other players chipping in points. After the winter break, the boys 3rds basketball team will be back in action on January 12th, with a 3 pm game up the hill against local rival Eaglebrook.
