Hosting St. Paul’s on Wednesday for their penultimate regular-season contest, Deerfield won 3-0 behind great play and great fans.
Opening with strong serving from Camila Navarro ‘20, Deerfield was able to get out to a small lead, but SPS stayed close with its defense and strong blocks to keep the score to 12-10. More timely hitting from Zoe Gavros ‘23 as well as excellent passing and setting from Rosa Sun ‘21 allowed Deerfield to take a 20-15 lead, but SPS would not let the set go easily. They rallied to bring the score as close as 24-22 before Deerfield was able to take the set, 25-22.
The second set again saw Deerfield getting off to a strong start, but this time they were able to extend that lead with fantastic serving from Georgia Sackrey ‘23 who stepped to the line at 10-6 and served us to 16-6. Evan Burkert ‘21 and Lara Akande ‘20 had great hits and blocks in the middle while Daphne Gavros ‘22 continued to play incredible defense. SPS made us earn every point, but Deerfield was able to finish the set on an ace from Sackrey to make it 25-15.
The 3rd set saw extended rallies with both teams playing good defense while looking to find seams for their attacks. Deerfield stayed strong and passed well, including from Keri Clougherty ‘21 and Nat Jimenez ‘20, to finish off the set, 25-9.
Huge shout out to the incredible fan support today! We love the energy and intensity that you bring to each match!
