Soccer, Girls: Varsity loses to Choate

Event Details

Deerfield Girls’ Varsity Soccer took the field one last time this season to face Choate at home in a decades-long rivalry game.

Both teams came out strong, starting the game at a rapid pace. Within a few minutes, both DA and Choate had opportunities on goal. The Boars struck one from just outside the 18 that sailed across the face of the net and into the side netting. On our attack, Ruby Chase ‘21 knocked ended up in a 1v1 in the corner. She made a cross to Ingrid Matteini ‘21 at the top of the box, who drilled the ball above the keeper’s hands, but the ball ricocheted off the crossbar. As DA’s defense worked, Choate released several strong shots over the course of the first half, netting a few more goals. Another opportunity for Deerfield came towards the end of the second half, when Jackson Kinsler ‘22 placed a shot in the corner after taking the ball inside from the flank. The score was 5-1 Choate at half.

In an effort that has become emblematic of this team’s grit, The Big Green kept fighting until the last whistle. The second half saw DA keep the Boars at bay, conceding only one goal. They defended corners fiercely and chased down Choate’s long balls on the flank. The final score was 6-1.
