Football: Varsity defeats Cheshire

Event Details

Deerfield won their 5th straight game in convincing fashion against a big and talented Cheshire Academy team by a score of 27-7.  Carter Hampson forced a fumble on the opening kickoff and Joe Dowling recovered it to give Deerfield the ball.  The turnover was the first of five turnovers on the day caused by Deerfield.  Deerfield scored off the opening kickoff turnover on a fourth and goal pass from Cortland Dicks to Sam Carlson.  Cortland threw a second touchdown pass in the first quarter, a 60 yarder to Donnie Gray that gave Deerfield a 14-7 lead.  Donnie also had 2 interceptions, giving him a team high 5 on the year.  The third touchdown came on defense when Marcus Romboli picked up a Cheshire fumble and ran it back for 50 yards.  Griffin Schutz added a 78 yard touchdown run in the 3rd quarter to round out the Deerfield scoring.  Leonard St. Gourdin recovered a fumble and had a leaping 21 yard catch in the 2nd quarter.
