Playing in their first home match in a month, Deerfield varsity volleyball came from behind to defeat Hotchkiss by a score of 3-1.
In the first set, good play from Hotchkiss and numerous service errors from Deerfield allowed Hotchkiss to take a lead at 9-19. Zoe Gavros ‘23 served strong to bring us to 15-19, but the Bearcats were able to close out the set 20-25.
Deerfield got off to a better start in the 2nd set before needing to make an injury substitution at setter. Meghan Holland ‘23 stepped in and brought her A-game, helping Deerfield extend their lead before Hotchkiss tied the set at 19-19. With gritty play and strong hitting, Deerfield was able to take the set 26-24 and it felt like the momentum shifted.
Deerfield made far fewer errors in the 3rd and 4th sets and while Hotchkiss was able to keep rallies going with their passing and good hitting, Deerfield was able to win both sets by scores of 25-15 and 25-15, respectively.
Thank you to Hotchkiss for making the long trip on a Wednesday!
Next up, Deerfield will host Exeter on Saturday for a 4 pm match as part of our Fall Family Weekend.
