Soccer, Girls: Varsity loses to Loomis

Event Details

The Big Green traveled to Loomis on a brisk sunny fall day to battle the Pelicans on the Meadows fields. Loomis caught DA on their heels in the first 10-15 minutes of the game with speed up top and well-placed balls to their striker that twice left her in a 1v1 with our keeper. Down 2 goals early and working to figure out coverage in the middle, DA eventually started to solve the marking issues and maintain possession. After Loomis netted their third goal, Deerfield countered with a long ball from Regan Hoar ‘20 down the left flank to Emma Kahle ‘22. Emma turned her defender and dribbled along the endline before cutting it back to Jackson Kinsler ‘22 who touched it past the Pelican keeper into the back of the net. DA ended the first half down two goals to Loomis.

The Big Green stood their ground and pressed harder on the attack in the second half, neutralizing the Pelicans’ long balls forward by stepping to their striker early and finding more space in the middle of the field. Kelly Howe, Annie Kane, Ingrid Matteini and Angie Rey all worked to get coverage on defense and spread out to connect with one another on offense. Kelly and Ingrid had a few shots from the top of the 18 yard box, that missed just wide of the goal frame. With about 15 minutes left to play, Loomis found one more gap through our back line to set up a similar situation 1v1 and netted their final goal of the game making the final score 4-1.

Deerfield returns home to take on Worcester Academy this Wednesday at 4:00pm.
