On a sunny and warm fall afternoon, the Big Green traveled to Concord, NH to battle the Big Red of St. Paul’s for the 3rd Annual Deerfield-St. Paul’s day. Throughout the 80 minutes of play, it was a battle for possession and momentum between both sides. Ultimately, Kelly Howe ’22 broke free in the middle of the field midway through the second hall and sent a 25 yard shot over the SPS goalkeepers head to give the Big Green the 1-0 advantage, which would hold through the final whistle of play.
In the first half, both teams exchanged opportunities. The Big Green’s most threatening chance came off a rocket strike from forward Emma Kahle ’22, the shot ricocheted off the crossbar and down.
Again in the second half, it was a battle for possession until Kelly Howe gave the Green and White the go-ahead-goal. The Big Green continued to create chances and SPS pressed hard during the final 15 minutes of play pushing numbers forward and shooting from range. The Big Green defense and goalkeeper Angie Czeremcha ’21 were successful in turning away their chances to preserve the shutout and the team’s first victory of the season.
The Big Green will return home to host neighboring NMH this Wednesday at 2:30pm.
