Soccer, Boys: Varsity ties Exeter

Event Details

Deerfield hosted the visiting team from Exeter, which team was ranked well above DA in the New England Prep School Soccer Association (NEPSSA) rankings.  Exeter jumped out to an early lead in the 3rd minute of play when a striker poked home the ball following a corner kick that resulted in a scramble in the DA box.  In the second half, DA equalized when captain Luca Antongiovanni ’20 collected captain Zach Davis’s ’20 pass down the right and crossed from the goal-line to Skye Bacon ’20, who arrived in the box to head home from just outside the 6-yard box.  Exeter responded with a goal in the 75th minute of play, but DA pressed for the equalizer, and found it when Zach Davis flipped the ball to Brendan Kish ’20 in the box and the latter struck a first-time left-footed volley into the top left-hand corner of the goal past the diving Exeter keeper.  The game ended in a draw, and Deerfield saw its NEPSSA ranking rise as a consequence thereof.

Deerfield looks forward to hosting Worcester Academy on Wednesday.
