On Wednesday Deerfield played away against a talented and disciplined Loomis team. The first half saw Loomis dominate possession and create a handful of scoring chances; but the Pelicans failed to capitalize on their chances, and on several occasions were frustrated by Deerfield ‘keeper Ben Diffley ’20, who had another outstanding game between the pipes.
Ten minutes into the second half Loomis got onto the scoreboard with a well-taken blast from the top-left of the box; but Deerfield rallied and within 2 minutes midfielder Brendan Kish ’20 had equalized with a low, driven ball that beat the diving Loomis ‘keeper and found the left side-netting inside the goal.
Loomis continued to dominate possession, though Deerfield counter-attacked with gusto and came close to taking the lead on several occasions. Late in the game, Loomis effectively put the game on ice with two goals in quick succession. Coaches and spectators alike were impressed by the DA team’s spirit and enthusiasm, both on the field and on the bench.
For Fall Family Weekend, Deerfield will host Exeter.
