The Deerfield varsity field hockey team faced a strong opponent in Westminster on Wednesday afternoon. Westy was able to move the ball swiftly between players, take hits quickly, and capitalize by stepping to passes. DA came out a bit flat and had trouble finding their normal rhythm. Westminster scored first late in the first half. Deerfield re-grouped at the half but were not able to regain their momentum and allowed Westminster three more goals during the second half. Sydney Cresta’20, Muffy Mazambani ’20, and Hannah Roche ’21 made some exceptional efforts to move the ball forward, but were only able to capitalize once late during the second half (Mazambani ’20). The score remained 4-1 when the horn sounded. The team will regroup this week and look forward to playing Taft on Saturday.
