The Deerfield Reserve field hockey team had their home opener today against cross-town rival The Bement School. Bement had a large, experienced squad who came out strong. They gained momentum in their offensive end and created scoring opportunities right away. Though Deerfield’s defense dug deep and played hard, Bement persevered with some strong, accurate shots and scored 2 goals before the half. In the 2nd half, Deerfield gained some offensive momentum and got off a few shots on goal, but in the end, the experienced Bement team dominated the play in the midfield and created more scoring opportunities to earn the 4-0 win. Ainslie Kell ’23 did a nice job as a first-time goalkeeper by making some key saves in both halves. Deerfield will work on some defensive strategies and scoring plays to be ready to take on Frontier on October 4th.
