Deerfield played a strong first period against Exeter at home on Saturday afternoon, getting pucks to the net early and often. Unfortunately, we let our foot off of the gas pedal in the second period, and Exeter broke through with the first goal of the game. The coaching staff challenged the team to step up before the final frame, and, led by our excellent Senior class, everyone responded. Each line generated chances, and all six defense played hard and with composure. Mae Emerson ‘19 tied the score with an absolute snipe top corner, but despite lots of chances down the stretch we could not find the winning goal. Liv Mikesell ‘20 was excellent in goal, our penalty killing units were spectacular, and Deirdre Mullowney ‘19 played a particularly strong game on defense. Emerson earned the hard had for responding with excellent leadership in the third period. Not the result we wanted, but lots to build off of heading into a 3-game week. Thank you to the DeMarco family for the pizza, fruit, cookies and drinks after the game!
