Deerfield dominated a hard working Pomfret squad on Wednesday evening, outshooting the visitors 68-7 and winning the Hastings Cup for the fourth straight year. We lacked a great deal of intensity in the first period, but Kelly Howe ‘22 got us on the board (assists to Brianna Felice ‘21 and Kailey Smith ‘22) when she went hard to the net and converted a rebound. The second period was our best of the game, and we were able to put three more pucks past the talented Pomfret goalie. First, Christina Halloran ‘20 took a pass from Caroline Skillman ‘19, split the defense and slipped the puck in all alone. Then, Howe earned her second goal of the game, again by going hard to the net, with Felice picking up another assist. Skillman rounded out the scoring for the period, punching home a rebound off of Halloran and Mae Emerson ‘19 shots. In the third period, Mary Edmonds ‘19 poked home a loose puck (assist to Ellia Chiang ‘21) and then Kailen Coelho ‘20 scored the first of her Deerfield career off of a beautiful feed from Edmonds. It was great to get contributions from all four lines, and our five healthy defensemen did a nice job adjusting to a new rotation. Jordan Manning ‘19 and Abby Fernald ‘22 shared the shutout in net, both making some solid saves. Kelly Howe earned the hard hat for constant pressure in the offensive zone and her consistently positive energy. Many thanks to Mrs. Rohan, Deirdre’s grandmother, for the wonderful sandwiches, chips, fruit and drinks after the game. Next up is a huge game against Andover at home on Saturday night.
