Deerfield ran into a strong, undefeated Andover squad on Saturday. The Blue opened the scoring with three goals in the first period, taking advantage of some lapses in coverage in front of the DA net. However, the Big Green buckled down in the next two periods and played a fast, spirited game against similarly quick, fiery opponent. Meredith Heaney and Kami Meier each solved the talented Andover goalie to close the gap to 4-2, but Andover took advantage of Deerfield’s late risk-taking to cushion their lead. Hunter Keller and Gabriella Hu stopped numerous Andover shots to keep the game within reach. The Big Green will strive to put together three consistent periods of smart, intense hockey as they travel to Simsbury, CT on Wednesday for a rematch with Westminster.
