The Deerfield Girls JV team headed down to Watertown, CT to take on the Taft Rhinos in an exciting match-up. Special schedules on campus had left the team with only one practice since our previous contest against Loomis, and this showed in a slow first period. However, coming from a 5-game winning streak, the Deerfield girls held a great amount of confidence and poise on the ice. Once the girls got started, the height and speed of the Taft girls wasn’t enough to best the team effort and excellent shooting by the Big Green. Our line of Kami Meier ’22, Maddie Boger ’21, and Alissa Zhang ’21 produced some key offense to help Deerfield take the lead and keep it. Taft was able to connect on some passes and some great individual efforts allowed them to keep the game interesting. Our defensive pairing of Maggie Roche ’19 and Juliet Perry ’19 has been strong all season, helping to fend off most of the attacks by Taft in this matchup, and ultimately the “Women of Winter” came home with an 10-5 victory. Many thanks to the Shillings for pizza on the bus following the game!
