Hockey, Boys: Junior Varsity loses to Cushing Academy

Event Details

The boys from Deerfield were on the road again this past Wednesday, this time at Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, Massachusetts. The team was coming off a big win on the road from Saturday and were hoping for another upset win on this trip. We knew the odds were against us, as Cushing is always strong and we entered the game with six key players on the injured reserve list. Nevertheless, the keys to our season thus far has been good defense and solid team play with contributions from everyone. Missing a few players is what we are used to and we put together a lineup that we felt could skate with this team.

The game started out just as we had hoped it wouldn’t. We didn’t play with confidence and allowed Cushing too many opportunities deep in the zone around our net. Colin Olson was tremendous in net doing everything he could to keep us in the game. At the end of one period it was 3-0 Cushing.

We settled down and started competing harder and did create several good scoring chances only to be turned away by the skilled Cushing goaltender. It would stay a 3-0 game until late in the third period when Cushing poked home one final goal.

The team hopes to regroup, gain some players back, and prepare to take on the Bearcats of Hotchkiss this Saturday at their place beginning at 4:00.
