Boys JV hockey traveled to NMH on Wednesday to face a much improved NMH team. After a quick turnaround from classes and the short ride up to Gill, MA the boys started the game by working hard throughout the first period, but coming away with a 0-1 deficit. NMH had two lines that were fast and this year’s team seemed determine to win that day. The second period started and Deerfield began picking up the pace and playing good team hockey. Steven Li would start our scoring with a brilliant rush up the left side of the ice and then burying his shot in the back of the NMH net. Steven’s first career Deerfield goal would eventually earn him the game puck for his solid play all game long. With the score tied Aidan Philie powered his way to the goal to give Deerfield its first lead of the day. Credit Gabe Moos with an assist on Aidan’s goal. Before the end of the second Jack Shanahan scored a brilliant one-timer off a pass from line mate Will Dale giving us a 3-1 lead.
The third period began with a quick power play goal by NMH and you could sense they were not going to go away easily. With the score 3-2 the play went back and forth for much of the period with both goalies making several nice saves. Colin Olson was strong in the net all afternoon. Deerfield would score their 4th goal off a scramble in front – Gabe Moos the goal scorer. With just under two minutes left in the game NMH would score again closing the lead to just 1 goal again. Time ran out on NMH and we were able to skate away with the victory. We give NMH a high-five for a great game and we look forward to hosting them here later in the season on February 19th.
