To round out a challenging week on the road at far away destinations, Deerfield earned a solid win against The Hotchkiss School on Saturday. With starter Tess Mannix sidelined with a sprained ankle, two freshmen and a new sophomore stepped up to key positions – Aoife Bruce, Grace Arcoleo and Evan Burkert. As always, Deerfield relied on the steady leadership of seniors Melissa Mitrovic and Emma Reavis throughout the game. Hotchkiss came out in a box and one defense focused on shutting down lead scorer Reavis, which forced other players to step up and score. Arcoleo, in particular, contributed 4 three-pointers in the effort. Deerfield pulled away in the last 5 minutes of the game to build up to a 23 point lead, buoyed by exciting buckets from Caroline Carpenter, Hannah Deringer and Kate Kelly in the final minutes.
