Girls’ JV basketball suffered a tough loss this Saturday. Deerfield played hard against a competitive Worcester Academy team, but unfortunately fell 1-point shy of victory at the end. It was an exciting matchup! Worcester started the game with a 6-point run, but it wouldn’t last for long. Molly Fischer answered with a quick jumper and a three-pointer to put Deerfield within one. Deerfield finally gained momentum and went into halftime with a two-point lead.
Deerfield started the 2nd half on fire! Deerfield went on an impressive run to extend the lead, forcing Worcester to call a timeout. Both teams traded baskets for most of the second half. With Deerfield up by seven points, it was Worcester’s turn to go on a run. They racked up six quick back-to-back points off steals. With Deerfield up by one with less than a minute left in the game, Worcester inbounded the ball and hit a clutch shot, putting them ahead by one with six seconds left on the clock. Deerfield quickly advanced the ball up the court, but unfortunately was not able to connect before the buzzer went off. Vera Menafee was Deerfield’s leading scorer with 10 points. Samara Cummings controlled the boards and was the second-leading scorer with 6 points. K. Wanayes (Worcester) led all scorers with 17 points.
