Deerfield traveled to Easthampton, MA on Wednesday to take on the lady wildcats of the Williston Northampton school. Both teams started off slow. DA struggled to catch the ball and to control offensive possessions; Williston took good shots but connected on only four baskets in the first half. Both teams played hard defense though! DA went into half time with a six point lead (14-8). DA finally woke up in the second half! DA would score several unanswered buckets off steals and defensive rebounds in the first few minutes of the 2nd half to extend the lead. Ruby Chase (’21) and Sami Dulam (’21) played a great defensive game. Ruby had back to back steals, resulting in easy, uncontested layups both times down. Sami forced Williston to make several turnovers. But overall it was a team effort for DA. Ten players scored, the posts dominated in the paint, and the guards played the passing lanes well. Williston’s Shez (#22) led all scorers with 12 points. DA’s Vera Menafee (’20) led all DA scorers with 10 points. Samara Cummings (’20) followed with 6 points. The final score was 42-22.
