Girls JV Basketball brought home a W from their away game in Exeter, NH this past Saturday. DA jumped out to a 4-point lead with a steal and quick basket from co-captains Jada H. (’19) and Alexia B. (’19), respectively. Then, DA’s shooting went ice cold for a long stretch. Exeter took full advantage, laying in a few baskets to steal the lead by 2 (4:6). But DA kept applying the pressure defensively and would eventually take the lead again with three baskets from Kiki B. (’22), Ruby C. (’21), and Annie K. (’20). Nicole D. (’19), Samara C. (’20) (off of a team play), and Vera M. (’20) (on her own rebound) contributed baskets in the last five minutes of the first half, putting DA ahead by 8 points going into half time. As expected, Exeter started the second half on fire. With a big push led by their leading scorer Barbour (#12), they pulled within two points of DA. But DA kept dropping in the baskets steadily, even though Exeter’s pressure defense forced us to take more outside shots. Alexia B. (’19) finally started the scoring off for us again with Whitney V. (’20), Molly F. (’20), and Ruby C. (’21) following her lead. Jada H. (’19) was a true point guard. She distributed the ball well and kept DA patient on the offensive end. She also led the team in steals. DA sealed the deal in the final five minutes with crucial buckets by Sami D. (’21), Kiki B. (’22), and Vera M. (’20). DA’s Vera M. and Kiki B. and Exeter’s Barbour (#12) were the high scorers with 6 points each. The final score was 32-18.
