Basketball, Girls: Junior Varsity defeats Andover

Event Details

Deerfield earned a big Win against Andover on our home court on Saturday. Both teams started off pretty slow and had trouble dropping pretty much anything into the hoops. Both teams shot lots of “up-and-over” the basket shots. Fortunately DA was rebounding well. Early on, both DA and Andover racked up more fouls than baskets! Vera M. (’20) finally put in two foul shots to get the first two points on the scoreboard. That was the momentum DA needed. Annie K. (’20) and Samara C. (’20) scored a basket each, and speedster Ruby C. (’21) broke away on a fast break pass for a picture-perfect layup finish. DA ended the first half with a modest 9-3 lead. DA came back in the second half much more intense on both sides of the ball. We executed our offensive, getting the shots that we wanted, and a strong defensive effort held Andover scoreless for a good part of the second half. Andover’s Ariana White (#13) was the game’s second leading scorer. She put forth a strong offensive effort for Andover before fouling out of the game. DA continued to extend the lead through the remainder of the half. It was an overall good team effort. DA was able to shake off a sleepy first half, pull it together, and finish up respectably. Ruby C. (’21) led all scorers with 8 points. Michelle Z. (’21) added 6 points and several rebounds. This was her first game back from an injury. Whitney V. (20) scored the final basket of the game. The final score was 31-14. This week, DA prepares to take on Hotchkiss.
