On Wednesday, January 9th, the boys 3rds basketball team traveled to Avon, Connecticut to face Avon Old Farms for a 4 pm tipoff. Despite not leading the game until the second half, the team won a tough game 43-38 against a previously-undefeated squad to improve to 3-1 on the season. The first half was back and forth, until late in the half when Avon managed to get a 5-point lead at 19-14. Deerfield responded with an 11-0 run that spanned the first and second halves (the score was tied 19-19 at half-time) to take a 25-19 lead. While Avon would never tie the game or retake the lead, the margin was cut to 2 a couple of times. Two late free throws from Ryan Shin ’22 sealed the win for Deerfield. Jasper McPhee ’22 continued to lead the team with 22 points with David Thomas ’20 adding 8, including a clutch rebound and put back late. The boys 3rds basketball team will be in the new multi-purpose room for their next game, a 3 pm tipoff on January 12th against Suffield.
