The girls varsity soccer team traveled to Milton Academy for their first game of the 2018 season. Milton opened the scoring in the 20th minute of play off of a corner kick – in the six yard box one of the Mustang players redirected a driven corner into the back of the net. In the first half the Big Green controlled the majority of the ball possession, but could not find the back of the net. The possession by the doors continued in the second half. The team continued to battle through hard 50-50 battles and in the final 20 minutes of the game the Big Green were knocking on the door to score. With five minutes to play Deerfield was awarded a penalty kick after a player was taken down in the 18 yard box. Annie Kane ‘20 stepped up and put her PK shot in the back of the net to bring the score line to 1-1. The Big Green continued to press for the go-ahead-goal, but time ran out. The Big Green defense were the MVPs of the game as they battled hard to collectively neutralize the Mustangs dynamic forwards all game long.
The Big Green will travel to Westminster this Wednesday for at 3:00pm kick-off against the Black and Gold.
