On Saturday, September 29th, the boys junior B soccer team hosted Suffield Academy on the lower fields for a 2:30 kickoff. It was a beautiful fall day for a game – sunny, with temperatures in the low 70s. Play in the early going was even, with neither team able to gain much of an advantage. Neither goal was threatened early, with much of the early play focused in the midfield. In the 6th minute, Suffield finally broke through with a goal to take a 1-0 lead. Suffield added 3 more goals in the first half, in the 11th, 22nd, and 30th minutes, to take a 4-0 lead at half-time. Deerfield rallied in the second half and, although they weren’t able to cut into the deficit, played much more spiritedly and peppered the Suffield keeper with shots. On the plus side, they held Suffield scoreless in the 2nd half, with very few shots on goal. The Deerfield boys junior B soccer team’s record dropped to 1-0-1 on the season and the team will be back in action on 10/3 with a road game against Avon Old Farms.
