Deerfield lost their first game of the year to Suffield by a score of 14-10. Deerfield took a 10-7 lead at the beginning of the 4th quarter on an 80 yard run by WR Quinton Quirrenbach ’19. Suffield scored the go ahead touchdown on a 40 yard touchdown pass with 3 minutes left in the game. The Deerfield offense was unable to score on their final possession of the game. The Deerfield defense was tough on Suffield all day; they had 7 sacks, 1 interception, and 1 fumble recovery. DE Francis Dooley ’19 led the way with 3 sacks, SS Luke Terry ’20 had his first interception of the year, and NG Jackson McCarty ’19 recovered the fumble. On offense, RB Griffin Schutz ’20 was effective running the ball and TE Bennett Pitcher ’21 had one of his best blocking performances of his career. K Matt Shea ’19 connected on a 25 yard field goal, which was the only points scored by either team in the first half. Deerfield goes on the road for the first time next week to face Hotchkiss.
