Deerfield won their home opener against Lawrenceville Academy by a score of 28-18. Lawrenceville scored on their opening possession of the game, but Deerfield was able to score the next 28 points and hold on to the lead to start the year 1-0. RB Griffin Schutz, in his first start of his career, scored 3 rushing touchdowns. PG WR Quinton Quirrenbach hauled in a long TD pass at the end of the first half and caught another long pass that set up Schutz’s 3rd TD run. The Deerfield defense was tough all afternoon, led by the play of LB Max Stevens and DE Francis Dooley. CB Donnie Gray had an interception that he returned for a TD, but it was called back due to a penalty on the return. QB Jack Bill was effective with his legs and did a great job on kickoffs. Deerfield hosts Suffield Academy next Saturday at home.
