Football: Junior Varsity defeats Avon Old Farms

Event Details

The JV football team went to battle with a gritty Avon team on Wednesday! The game started with negative gains on offense from both Deerfield and Avon, but it was clear both defenses came to play. Deerfield saw great play from Jack Trapp ’19 and Cooper DeMallie ’22 at linebacker early on which set the tone for the Big Green as they pushed on during the not so pretty first half. A few penalties here and there stopped the Deerfield offense from running like a well-oiled machine. However, as the team took the field for the second half of play, longtime coach, Toby Emerson had the boys ready to drive down the field. Carry after carry, Bryce Pang ’22 pushed the Big Green into the end zone to go up 6-0. Knowing full well that the JV team has not kicked since Mr. Emerson started here, he reached into his bag of tricks for a two point play. Max Wuchenich ’21 took the snap from Patty “Ice Box” McKee ’20. New sophomore Tommy Stull ’21 took the handoff and punched it in off tackle for the score. The Deerfield defense would hold for the 4th quarter. Deerfield saw Kevin Griffin ’21 and Carter Hampson ’20 both make great interceptions to lock up the game and just like that the boys are rolling!
