The Varsity Field Hockey team played a neutral-site game against Milton on the turf at The Pomfret School this afternoon. The game was played on both ends of the field and seven goals were tallied in all before the final whistle blew. Sharon Kereke ’19 scored first for Deerfield ten minutes into the first half. However, Milton responded with a goal of their own almost immediately. The game wasn’t tied for long, though, as Maggie Roche ’19 put the DA girls back in the lead with fifteen minutes left in the first half. Milton started the scoring in the second half, but once again Deerfield responded. Kereke tipped a ball in two minutes after Milton’s second goal to bring the score to 3-2. Milton tied the game up once again six minutes later. The final goal of the game, tipped in by Mimi Pastor ’19 with 14:34 left in the second half, put DA in the lead 4-3. While both teams gave a good effort to control the ball and increase the score, the game remained scoreless after Pastor’s goal. Ali Fujiyoshi ’19 was a dynamic leader in the defensive end throughout the entire game this afternoon. Next up, Big Green field hockey will travel to Exeter to play this Saturday afternoon.
