Our first game of the ‘18-‘19 season was played under a perfect blue sky in hot sunny weather. The girls had been focusing on a few different things after our play-day on Saturday and our scrimmage against Brooks on Wednesday. The coaches were excited to see that they were making adjustments to their play today that suggested thoughtful play and a desire to improve. The team started to look like a “unit” today on the turf, rather than eleven skilled players working individually. The four girls who played forward, Mimi Pastor ’19, Sharon Kereke ’19, Maggie Roche ’19, and Juliet Perry ’19, each put at least one goal in the net and the midfield worked tirelessly to support both the offense and defense, and possess the ball. Our defense was lead by the confident play of Ali Fujiyoshi ’19 and Christina Halloran ’20, and Liv Mikesell ’20 in net came up with an incredible save over her head to keep the game score to 3-0 at the half. During the second half, the team came out fired up! With the intense heat of the afternoon, there was quite a bit of rotation on and off the field and the coaches were pleased to see that the intensity never waned. It was a well-played first game against an aggressive Berkshire team that never let down. The score at the end of the game was 6 -1. Next, we play Pomfret on Wednesday.
