On the first day of fall, Deerfield Reserves played their season opener against a formidable Hotchkiss squad. The game was end-to-end action for the full 60 minutes. Considering this DA squad of 21 includes 15 players who are new to the sport and only picked up a stick 8 days ago, we are already showing some great potential.
Right from the opening whistle, Deerfield played hard and moved the ball quite well up the right side. We earned 2 penalty corners very quickly but the ball just couldn’t find the back of the net. At the end of the first half, Deerfield’s defensive unit of Elsa Marrian ‘21, Bri Felice ‘21, Gabriela Hu ‘21 and Kailen Coelho ’20 held off a Hochkiss penalty corner with no time left on the clock holding the score to 0-0 at the half.
The second half saw more intense action and some near goals for Deerfield, but in the end, Hotchkiss was the squad that found the back of the net. All in all, this was an exciting fast-paced effort by The Big Green in its very first game. Up next Deerfield takes on Hampshire Regional on Wednesday, September 26th.
